The curriculum at SUA is personalised to our students’ needs

Students experience a broad and varied curriculum, which prepares students at each stage of their educational journey with us. We believe in the mantra ‘knowledge is power,’ coupled with great teaching and the right work ethic, our students will achieve their personal best. At the start of each term students are issued with Knowledge Organiser’s, which pinpoint the key content and skills that students need to excel here at SUA.

At key stage 3 (Year 7 and 8) students experience the core subjects of English, mathematics and science as well as a range of humanities, modern foreign languages and creative subjects. We are proud that whilst many schools reduce their arts provision, we have expanded ours to include art, music, drama, dance, catering, design and technology, PE and religious education.

British Values underpin our work across all subjects and our unique CHARACTER @ SUA programme at key stage 3 makes us stand out. We believe a student’s character will make the difference in their success in life, we help nurture and develop this.

As students move into Year 9 they are asked to personalise their curriculum further, opting into a range of subjects to experience increased hours in. We believe this gives students the chance to really foster a deep interest in a subject area.

By Years 10 and 11 our students enter the qualifications stage of their time with us, students will have made decisions on a pathway of subjects which is heavily linked to their intended career pathways and their academic achievement with us.

Many of our Year 11 move on to study here at our post-16 offering SUA6, who in turn move onto university, higher-level apprenticeships and employment.
