COVID-19 Daily Bulletin 2

18th March 2020

Re: COVID-19 Daily Bulletin

Dear Parents/Carers,

Here is our daily update for you today:

  • Alton Towers have confirmed we can change the date of the rewards visit for 150 of our students. The new date will be shared with families once we are in a position to do so.
  • Following confirmation from our insurance company, we are aiming to process a full refund for the cancelled Year 7 and Year 8 London visit prior to Easter.
  • The cleaning staff are taking extra care to wipe down students desks, academy corridor doors, staircase rails and other locations of ‘high traffic’ on a daily basis with anti-bacterial wipes.
  • All visitors to SUA are being asked to use the anti-bacterial gel in the academy and all staff are regularly using this prior to delivering lessons.
  • Regular checks are done to ensure soap is kept replenished in the toilets and students continue to be reminded to wash their hands regularly.

Currently all lessons continue to be staffed however, this is an ever-changing picture as more families and colleagues are being affected by the 14 day self-isolation rules that have been imposed by the government. Our priority is to keep staff and students safe and to deliver lessons for as long as we are able to do so. It might be that we have to consider a partial closure for particular year groups if the situation worsens with further absence. This is not something we have the need to do yet.

Staff are currently working incredibly hard to produce work packs that we will issue in any circumstance where absence cannot be avoided from lessons. A number of our students, and families, are already self-isolating. We are aiming to get these packs sent out in the post to those students by the end of the week. In the meantime, if your son/daughter is currently not in school and you have access to the internet they should be directed to use their knowledge organisers. www.suacademy.co.uk using the tab Students then Knowledge Organisers.

Thank you for your continued support, we very much appreciate this during these unprecedented times.

Yours sincerely

Mrs. R. Hillier
