Welcome from the Head of Sixth Form
It is my belief that should you choose to join our Sixth Form then you are not only joining at a very exciting time but also making a positive step towards your future. Students that have joined our Sixth Form have achieved their potential and have gone onto employment, apprenticeships and university.
At the academy we thrive on providing students with the best possible experience in post 16 education and aim to equip all our students with the right advice and guidance to prepare them all for life beyond post 16 education. Regular educational visits are organised to universities around the country and also to employment and careers events such as the NEC Skills Show.
In November 2013 we moved into a multi-million pound state of the art academy building. This is equipped with all the latest technologies and resources that you will utilise to assist with the teaching and learning within the subjects you choose to study. We have further developed our Sixth Form and it has recently moved to our new dedicated Sixth Form Centre, designed by our students.
I have every faith that in choosing to study at Staffordshire University Academy Sixth Form you will develop the necessary life skills and achieve qualifications to project you onto your chosen career path and future aspirations.
Wider Learning and Enrichment Activities
In addition to your chosen subjects you will have the opportunity to take part in other activities in the Sixth Form. Some of these activities may include:
Residential visits – visits to universities and outdoor education.
Activities days – Sixth Form students take part in whole academy activity days. These days usually take place in the summer term. Some activities take place in the academy and may involve the entire Sixth Form or groups of students supporting other year groups on visits and activities. On future activities days we are looking to arrange visits where students can experience canoeing, archery, zip wire, assault course and many other exciting team building activities.
End of term enrichment activities – In addition to visits and opportunities throughout the year, at the end of the term students can take part in activities such as visiting the Birmingham Christmas Market, bowling, indoor skating, Laser Quest, Alton Towers, Drayton Manor and possibly other visits that are suggested by Sixth Form students.
Support and Guidance
In our Sixth Form we operate a tutor group system, similar to the main academy but groups are smaller. The tutor is the first port of call for our students and they deliver many different activities that are relevant to our students. Tutors support our students when they apply to university and also when preparing CVs for future employment.
Great emphasis is placed on ensuring that all students are on the right courses and all Year 11 into 12 students receive guidance meetings and reviews of their work. Advice and Guidance is regularly provided in the academy so that students are aware of what options are available for them once they complete their Sixth Form education.
Tutors have an active role in the academy and they monitor attendance and punctuality alongside the Sixth Form Pastoral Manager and the Head of Sixth Form. Reports are prepared on a regular basis along with opportunities to meet subject teachers. Exam results are available in August each year and each year students have a progression interview to aid with their transition into Year 13 and to ensure that they are focused on their future exams and aspirations.
Level 3 BTEC and A Level courses
Our Sixth Form at Staffordshire University Academy welcomes applications from students who believe they have what it takes to successfully study A Level and also Level 3 Vocational courses. We are an inclusive Sixth Form and aim to support all students to achieve their potential and reach their aspirations to pursue their future careers.
